The GroundTruth Project’s mission is to restore journalism from the ground up by supporting the next generation of journalists through field reporting that serves under-covered corners of the United States and the world.

Report for America is a national service program that places emerging journalists into local newsrooms to report on urgent, under-covered issues and communities. It is an initiative of The GroundTruth Project, an award-winning, independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization dedicated to supporting the next generation of journalists. Report for America is a dynamic, rapidly growing answer to America’s crisis in local news reporting.

Report for the World is an international journalism program that matches local newsrooms with talented journalists to report on under-covered issues around the globe. By creating a more sustainable and impactful media ecosystem, Report for the World informs, engages, and enables communities through public service journalism.

Role Overview:

The Development Project Manager will join a collaborative Development Team that works seamlessly across the organization. This role is essential for managing key relationships, optimizing our prospecting efforts, and driving the success of our development initiatives. We seek a candidate who is proactive, trustworthy, and passionate about the power of journalism as a public service to people and communities, with a strong commitment to equity.

Key Responsibilities:

Proposal Writing and Management:

  • Craft customized proposals that resonate with the unique needs and culture of each potential partner.
  • Maintain the appropriate tone and reflect GroundTruth’s values and mission in all communications.

Relationship Management:

  • Build, manage, and nurture essential relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and point of contact, ensuring ongoing engagement and satisfaction.
  • Coordinate next steps and follow-ups to maintain momentum and continuity.

Communication and Liaison:

  • Serve as an internal liaison, gathering and disseminating information across the organization on behalf of the Development Team.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to partner emails and inquiries, helping to keep all engagements on track.

Prospecting and Outreach:

  • Optimize the workflow from prospect identification to outreach.
  • Identify and reach out to potential prospects.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance prospect engagement and conversion.

Project Management:

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all deadlines are met and objectives achieved.
  • Coordinate with various teams to ensure the smooth execution of development initiatives.

Information Gathering and Analysis:

  • Extract and compile relevant information from various organizational sources to support development efforts.
  • Analyze data to provide insights and recommendations for improving development strategies.

Stewardship:

  • Oversee the stewardship of relationships, ensuring partners and stakeholders feel valued and supported.
  • Develop and implement stewardship plans that align with GroundTruth’s mission and goals.

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in managing complex development projects, including proposal writing, relationship management, and prospecting.
  • Skilled in implementing development strategies and managing fundraising projects from inception to completion.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with a willingness to take initiative and drive results.
  • Ability to understand and articulate the nuances of custom relationship care.
  • Talent for building and maintaining strong relationships.
  • Trustworthy and reliable, with a keen sense of responsibility.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a remote team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute effectively.

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, development, fundraising, or a related area.
  • Experience with database management (Salesforce preferred) or content management systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, especially as it relates to handling sensitive information and tracking data.

This position is remote and may be based anywhere in the world, with the expectation of approximately 20% travel.

Note: This is a part-time position, pay is commensurate with experience.
